Why EnergoPark Ternopil is not just an energy project, but an investment in community sustainability

As Ukraine's energy system undergoes transformation, communities are increasingly seeking solutions that will reduce their dependence on external factors. The Ternopil community is one of those that is moving from reaction to forward planning. The Ternopil Energy Park project demonstrates an approach in which strategy is no less important than technology.

1. Technologies that work for the community, not the other way around

Solar and wind power stations, cogeneration, BESS — all these are important elements. But the main thing is how these elements are integrated.

All generating and storage capacities form a single system that works not ‘alone’ but in interaction:

  • the sun provides daytime generation,

  • the wind adds stability during periods of low insolation,

  • BESS smooths out peaks and provides reserves,

  • EMS combines everything into a manageable network.

This is a departure from the old approach of ‘build a station and see what happens’ to a systematic model with clear logic.

2. Responding to the challenges of a growing city

The Ternopil community has strong economic potential: over 110 enterprises, tens of thousands of businesses, and extensive social infrastructure. Its energy needs are correspondingly high: 415 GWh per year, a significant portion of which is consumed by critical facilities.

In such conditions, the Energy Park is not just a modernisation project, but a safety net that will allow the community to grow even in unstable energy scenarios.

This has a direct impact on:

  • investment attractiveness,

  • the possibility of relocating enterprises,

  • the continuity of infrastructure operation,

  • and the competitiveness of the region.

3. A model that works in the long term

Thanks to its ability to operate in autonomous (island) mode and generate 151 GWh per year, the Energy Park creates not a one-off ‘support’ but a foundation for long-term development.

  • In the future, this will make it possible to:

  • plan loads more flexibly,

  • reduce the risks of seasonal or emergency outages,

  • and strengthen the city's resilience to external energy crises.

The project is not a one-off solution, but part of the community's modern energy architecture.

Conclusion

The Energy Park is not just a generation facility. It is a new energy model that creates predictability, autonomy and stability for a community of over 250,000 people.

In an urban context, where every hour without power affects medicine, logistics, security and the economy, such projects become the basis for real energy independence.
